Srinagar: The Jamaat-e-Islami of occuied Kashmir has strongly denouned inhuman treatment meted out to illegally detained Kashmiri Hurriyet leaders and activists in jails.

The Jamaat spokesman in a statement issued in Sriangrar said that ill-treatmetn with inmates in any jail was violation of the UN Human Rights charter and also considered by civilized world as a heinous offence against the humanity.

He said that the Kashmiri Hurriyet leaders and activists detained for demanding the just resolution of Kashmiri dispute were to be treated as political prisoners as per the international law and violation of their rights enhanced gravity of the offence.

The spokesman siad that the jail authorities were simply meant for keeping the inmates in safe custody and providing them all facilities which they were entitled to. No law allows them to impose thier own agenda, religious or political, upon the inmates.

He said subjecting the inmates to corporal or mental punishment for not obeying such an agenda is a blatant violation of law and misuse and abuse of legal authority. The ill-treatment meted out to liberation leader, Mushtaq-ul-Islam and other political prisoners by the Superintendent of Udhampur Jail, is as such most condemnable act, he added.

The spokesman demanded early release of all political detenues including Dr. Qasim Fakhtoo, Masarat Alam Butt, Muhammad. Ayub Dar and Mushtaq-ul-Islam before Eid-ul-Azha so that they could celebrate the auspicious occasion with their families.

End.
