IHC rejects petition against special court on Musharraf treason case

ISLAMABAD: The Islamabad High Court (IHC), Wednesday, rejected the petition challenging the constitution of a special court for the treason trial of former president, General (Retd) Pervez Musharraf. The petition had been filed by Riaz Hanif Rahi in the IHC.

During the hearing, IHC Justice Noorul Huque Qureshi observed that the petitioner should have approached the proper forum, while the Registrar office recorded its objection that the petitioner was not the affected person and his right to challenge does not hold.

The three member special court which will hear the treason case of Musharraf is headed by Justice Faisal Arab (Sindh High Court). Other members of the bench include Justice Yawar Ali (Lahore High Court) and Justice Tahira Safdar (Balochistan High Court).

JI demands indiscriminate operation against lawbreakers

KARACHI: Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) Karachi Chief Hafiz Naeem-ur-Rehman has demanded of the government to launch grand operation against the criminals without any discrimination for restoration of lasting peace in the city.

In a statement issued here on Wednesday, Hafiz Naeem said that indiscriminate operation against criminal elements, imperative for restoration of peace in metropolis.

JI Karachi Chief said that the provincial government has completely failed in restoration of law and order, as the leaders and workers of political and religious parties are being targeted in broad daylight.

Hafiz Naeem termed the reconciliation policy of the present government, major cause of ongoing targeted killings in the city.

"The Chief Minister instead of accepting his failure and incompetency in restoration of law and order, said that the criminal elements are attempting such illegal activities in order to divert the attention from ongoing targeted operation", he added.

Who is responsible of recovering illegal arms and restoration of peace in the city, JI Karachi Chief questioned.

Hafiz Naeem further demanded that the government should take effective steps in order to uproot terrorism from the city.
