Have mercy on us!... By Hashim

Regrettably, from the day the PML-N government came into power, the prices of petroleum products and edible items have continued to increase, giving rise to volatility and uncontrollable inflation. Why do economic experts in the incumbent government not think that the massive hikes in petrol, diesel and electricity prices will have an adverse effect on inflation, production and employment in the country? Why do our rulers, who lead the lives of kings and emperors, not try to cut their own expenses and explore other ways and means to meet their deficit? It goes without saying that inflation has a rolling snowball effect; salary based incomes fail to rise along with the price hikes. It is now imperative for the present government not to indulge in ambitious economic stimulus packages, pressuring it to borrow excess money from the State Bank of Pakistan.
The rulers are requested to have mercy on this nation and take monetary and fiscal measures to tame hyperinflation and strengthen the national economy. It is proposed that there be a ban on unnecessary foreign trips and non-productive activities such as conferences in five-star hotels where millions of rupees are spent on food and lodging.
