ISLAMABAD: Submitting a progress report in the ephedrine quota scandal case, the Anti-Narcotics Force on Tuesday complained to the Supreme Court that PML-N MNA Hanif Abbasi, an accused in this case, is not cooperating in the investigating, as he has ordered all of his employees not to respond to the call of the investigation officer.
Abbasi appeared before an investigation team of the Anti-Narcotics Force and recorded his statement in the case. The ANF team questioned the lawmaker, who is on interim bail granted by the Lahore High Court's Rawalpindi Bench, and sought details of the usage of the quota.
In compliance of the court's September 5 order, the ANF submitted that during the preliminary investigation, seven pharma companies were thoroughly probed and it transpired that most of the record prepared by these companies was bogus, therefore, cases were registered against them, including the Gray's company, owned by Hanif Abbasi and Zahid Bakhtawari.
On July 29, the ANF registered a case against Abbasi for his alleged involvement in misusing 500kg of ephedrine, which was to be used in manufacturing medicines locally. Abbasi produced some receipts and details of 170kg of ephedrine used in medicines that were available in different markets, but there was no mention of the remaining 330kg.
End.
