Gunmen kill cop, injure another 2 ANA troops injured while defusing landmine

HERAT/KANDAHAR: Taliban gunmen shot dead a policeman and wounded another in Farah City, capital of western Farah province, today, police said Monday.

The gunmen riding a motorcycle opened fire on two police at a gate of a girls' school in the limits of 1st police district, Aqa Noor Kentos, provincial police chief, told Afghan Islamic Press (AIP).

He said one of the two policemen guarding the school was killed and another wounded in the attack mounted at approximately 11:00 a.m., adding the assailants made their escape good.

Taliban spokesman Qari Muhammad Yousaf Ahmadi claimed responsibility for the attack and told Afghan Islamic Press (AIP) both the cops were killed and their weapons were seized by Taliban.

Meanwhile, at least three persons were wounded in two separate explosions in Kandahar City, capital of Kandahar province, today, defence ministry said Monday.

Troops of Afghan National Army (ANA) were defusing a landmine in Arghandab Square, limits of 9th police district in Kandahar city, when it went off, said a press release issued by defence ministry. It said two ANA troops were injured in the blast happened this morning and taken to hospital for treatment.

Javed Faisal, spokesman for Kandahar governor, confirmed the incident to Afghan Islamic Press (AIP) and give the same details.

In another development, he said, a bomb detonated in the limits of 9th police district when a police vehicle was passing the area late yesterday's evening.

He said a civilian was injured in the blast and there was no damage to police. There was no claim of responsibility by Taliban.
