Govt responsible for current Balochistan situation

04 January, 2013

LAHORE: The Balochistan National Conference, which concluded at the Punjab University (PU) on Thursday, adopted a unanimous resolution holding the federal government responsible for the current situation of the province.

SM Zafar, PINA General Secretary Altaf Hassan Qureshi, PML-Likeminded Secretary General Humayun Akhtar Khan, PU Vice Chancellor Dr Mujahid Kamran, former governor Shahid Hamid, former Balochistan IGP Chaudhry Muhammad Yaqoob, Brig (r) Nadir Mir, Maj Gen (r) Muhammad Farooq, PML-N Balochistan leader Anwar Ahmad Kakar, Syed Fakhar Imam and people from different walks of life attended the concluding session.

SM Zafar was of the view that civil society is gaining roots in Balochistan which is a healthy sign. He said there was need to get rid of the feudal system.

Syed Fakhar Imam said Balochistan was strategic and integral part of Pakistan.

According to him, the Balochistan issue was totally political. He said the future of Balochistan was in fact the future of Pakistan. He stressed the need for forming a reconciliatory commission on the Balochistan issue.

Humayun Akhtar said political issues were always complicated. He said the government had badly failed in the democratic regime, adding however, the failure of the government should not be considered as failure of democracy. Brig (r) Nadir Mir said the Balochistan issue could only be resolved if "we all consider ourselves Baloch".

According to him, "Baloch nationalism" was not a threat to Pakistan.

End.
