Govt planning new pay packages for employees

ISLAMABAD: The Finance Ministry is expected to finalise today (Thursday) a set of proposals on a comprehensive package, including unified pay scales, monetisation of housing facility as well as monetisation of conveyance facility for federal government employees from grade 1-19, official sources said. The package is expected to be finalised during a meeting at the Finance Ministry and presented before Prime Minister Raja Pervez Ashraf on Friday for initial approval, the sources added. The main components of the proposed package are merger of all ad hoc relief allowances ranging from 55 percent, 60 percent, 65 percent, 85 percent at different ministries and divisions and allowing further increase in pay to equalise and upgrade all these to 100 percent increase in basic pay scales in proposed unified pay scheme. The sources said monetisation of conveyance allowance for grade 1-19 federal employees is also part of the proposed package according to which government employees of Grade 19 would be given Rs 30,000, grades 17-18 Rs 20,000, Grade 16 Rs 12,500, grades 11-14 Rs 7,500, grades 5-10 Rs 4,500 and grades 1-4 Rs 3,000 as conveyance allows per month. Employees of grades 20-22 are already enjoying monetisation of transport facility and receiving handsome amounts along with salaries. Proposal for monetisation of housing facility for government employees mainly aims at providing 75 percent of the basic pay as cash along with salaries in exchange for taking back official houses from the employees.
