Govt may not complete term, says Imran
29 December, 2013
LAHORE: Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf Chairman Imran Khan Saturday said the PML-N government might not complete its constitutional term due to its failure on different fronts.
Flanked by provincial leadership of the party, talking to the media at his residence, the PTI chairman stated the circumstances under the PML-N were worsening and its inability to address the issue of loadshedding could cost the government high.
However, Imran added the best replacement for poor democratic government wasn't a military takeover but a good and capable democratic rule. He added those who were thinking that situation in the country could improve under military rule are wrong.
To a question about the call of protest given by Tahirul Qadri, Imran said his party wasn't a part of that but added that alignment between the two sides over core issues couldn't be ruled out in future. Commenting over the government stance over drone strikes and Nato supply, Imran said there seemed to be no difference between the PML-N and the PPP over this issue. He said if PML-N leadership thought that country could face isolation, if they adopted a bold stance over drones or Nato supplies, why did it pass resolutions in the parliament over this matter in near past.
Answering a question about Kalabagh Dam, Imran said Punjab had a greater and most important role to play in this regard and no progress over this issue could be made unless the people of Sindh were taken into confidence.
He said unless Punjab removed all the apprehensions about it in the minds of smaller provinces, nothing could improve. He also said if the Punjab didn't play its due role, we shouldn't forget the example of East Pakistan.
Responding to a question about possibility of holding local bodies elections on non-party basis, Imran said the country had already suffered a lot due to non party basis polls. He said the era of corruption in politics started in 1985, when general elections were held on non-party basis and loyalties were bought. He said those elections gave birth to the Muslim League led by Nawaz Sharif which later introduced Changa Manga, brief cases and bribery into the politics.
He said the present PML-N was in fact a product of 'Neelam Ghar' staged in 1985 elections. PTI would resist holding of local bodies elections on non- party basis, said Imran. He said the local body system in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa would ensure proper transfer of power to the masses.
President PTI Punjab Ejaz Chaudhry, General Secretary Dr Yasmin Rashid and Punjab Information Secretary Andleeb Abbas were also present on the occasion.
