Govt consulting on new AGP's appointment

ISLAMABAD: The government has stared consultation regarding the appointment of the new attorney general of Pakistan (AGP) after the resignation of Munir A Malik from the post.

Salman Aslam Butt is being considered for the post. Sources revealed that Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif had proposed Salman Akram Butt's name for appointment as the next AGP.

The government would issue a notification about the new AGP by January 16. Sources also said that the government was also considering Akram Sheikh and Aushtar Ausaf for the post, but the former is presently appointed as special public prosecutor in the high treason trial of Pervez Musharraf.
