Govt approves 20% special allowance for 10 ministries

ISLAMABAD: The federal government on Monday approved 20% special allowance for employees of around 10 ministries and divisions getting single pay and not availing any additional allowances. Employees of ministries of Finance, Planning, Interior, SAFRON, Commerce, Petroleum, Production, Industry, Railways, Food Security, Technical Education, Cabinet Division and Establishment Division will benefit from the decision, according to an official at the Ministry of Finance. The Public Accounts Committee, Senate and National Assembly Standing Committee on Finance had earlier termed the existing salary structure for the ministries as discriminatory and had directed Ministry of Finance to finalise unified pay scales for all the remaining employees getting single pay as against double and triple pay regime applicable to different ministries and divisions. The Coordination Committee of the Federal Government Employees on Friday last had staged a sit-in at the premises of the federal secretariat to demand 100% increase in their salaries. The Public Account Committee has asked the Ministry of Finance to update it on Wednesday about the work done so far on unification of pay scales. End.
