MULTAN: Former Prime Minister Syed Yousaf Raza Gilani has resigned form the slot of Senior Vice President of PPP over shocking defeat of the party in general elections.

He was addressing a urgently called press conference at Multan Press Club here on Monday. He said that he would continue work as an ordinary worker of People's Party as his resignation is not on the basis of any differences.

He said that the bad performance of the party and appalling election results has nothing to do with the Chairman PPP Bilawal Bhutto Zardari. These factors should not affect Bilawal's political future.

Responding a question , Gilani said that demanding resignation from President Zardari is not appropriate as he is the head of state and secondly he is not chief of PPP.

He said that PPP emerges as second biggest party in the elections and now it would play the role of effective opposition. "We would praise good works of PML(N)'s government but strictly criticize on blunders and bad deeds", he added.

Replying another query, PPP leader said that the party had not opportunity to run election campaign , it could not hold big public rallies due to security threats. Just two days before the polls , his son was kidnapped.

He said that in 2008 the main objective of PPP was to doff the uniform of Pervez Musharraf. At that time Nawaz Sharif was not interested in contesting polls , but it was only Benazir Bhutto, who convinced him to take part in the elections. After the martyrdom of BB, he once again refused but then Zardari persuade him to compete elections.

End.
