Gilani files review plea against disqualification

ISLAMABAD: Former prime minister Yousaf Raza Gilani on Saturday filed a review petition in the Supreme Court against his disqualification by a three-member bench on June 19, 2012.
A seven member bench of the apex court on April 26, 2012 found the former premier guilty of contempt of court for not implementing its ruling in the NRO case, with particular reference of writing a letter to Swiss authorities for reopening graft cases against President Zardari.
Gilani on Saturday personally came to the Supreme Court to file his review petition. He had earlier sent the petition by email, but the SC Registrar Office on January 5 returned it after raising technical objections.
Before filing his review petition in the court in-person, the former premier told the media that he had removed the SC registrar's objections, and had filed the petition after consultations with his legal experts, taking the stance that the president enjoyed immunity under the constitution and the National Assembly speaker had also endorsed his view.
