Generosity and injustice... By Hashim

History bears witness to the fact that man has always detested oppression and injustice and has held in high regard acts of kindliness and benevolence performed without the hope of reward or return. Indeed, generosity is superior to justice, for what is justice except observance of the rights of others and avoiding violating them; but a generous man willingly foregoes his own right in favour of another person. The just man does not transgress the rights of others — he safeguards their rights from being violated. The generous man sacrifices his own right for the sake of others.

Thus, generosity must be superior to justice. Historically speaking, this country, the Indus Valley civilisation used to be the land of generosity and justice but now it has become the land of stinginess and injustice. Like many others, I am in the quest for both these noble human virtues in Pakistani society. Let us strive to revive the inner light among the people who make this land, to make this country a country of generosity and justice.
