Funeral prayers of ASWJ leader offered

05 January, 2014

ISLAMABAD: Funeral prayers of local leader of Ahl-e-Sunnat Wal Jamaat (ASWJ) and his companion were offered in front of Parliament House here on Saturday.

Ahl-e-Sunnat Wal Jamaat had earlier announced to offer the funeral prayers of its leader in front of an office of United Nations in capital city.

After negotiations with authorities, prayers were allowed to be offered at D-square near Parliament House and other key public institutions.

The funeral prayers were led by Mollana Usmani while hundreds of ASWJ workers have participated in the prayers.

The bodies were later shifted to Abbottabad, native town of deceased leaders for burial.

Another leader of ASWJ was shot dead in Lahore last month in sectarian violence.

It should be mentioned here that ASWJ leader Mufti Muneer Muawiya was shot down on Friday along with his friend Asad Mehmood in Islamabad's sector I-8, while they were passing through the area on board a car.

Following the assault, the bereaved families and the group's operatives staged a protest demonstration on the assassination spot while bodies of the deceased were places at Jinnah avenue for hours.

End.
