Five suspected Taliban killed

JALALABAD: Afghan and coalition forces killed five suspected anti-government gunmen and wounded three more after a clash in Hesarak district of eastern Ningarhar province yesterday, an official said Thursday.

The clash erupted after gunmen attacked a convoy of Afghan and foreign forces in the limits of the district, Abdul Khaliq, administrator of Hesarak district, told Afghan Islamic Press (AIP). He said five gunmen were killed and three wounded while there was no damage to combined force, adding a Taliban commander identified as Sangin, resident of Azra district of Logar province and another gunman Fedai were among the dead.

ISAF regional command east, meanwhile said in an operational update that Afghan Uniformed Police and coalition forces killed five gunmenduring an engagement in Heserak District. There was no word by Taliban in this regard.
