Five more people found dead in Karachi

KARACHI: Five more people were found dead in different parts of the city, while five others were injured in separate incidents of firing on Sunday.

A 42-year-old man, who was later identified as Abdul Ghani Soomro, was found dead near Native Jetty Bridge within the limits of Baghdadi police station.

Police officials said the victim's body was packed in a gunny bag. He went missing since Saturday, he said. SHO Ghulam Nabi Afridi said unidentified men first abducted Soomro and then tortured him. He said that the deceased belonged to Kachchi community and lived in Khadda market area of Lyari. The SHO said he used to run his own electronics shop in Saddar area. The officer said that it had yet to be ascertained either the victim was killed over refusal to pay extortion or killed during ongoing wave of violence.

The body was shifted to the Civil Hospital Karachi (CHK) and later handed over to his family after an autopsy. The police have registered a case against unidentified persons and initiated further investigation.

Bodies of two more young men were found within the jurisdiction of Manghopir police station. The identities of the victims have yet to be ascertained. They were brought to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital (ASH) and later shifted to Edhi morgue for identification.

Police officials said that the initial course of investigation suggested that one victim was the Afghan origin, while another belonged to Mehsud tribe. West Zone SSP Amir Farooqi said that the victims were killed after abduction, adding that the kidnappers took them away at undisclosed location, where they shot and killed them and later threw their bodies at the abandoned place while further investigation was underway. Another body of a young man was found in a gunny bag from the Lyari River near Dhobi Ghat within the remit of Pak Colony police station. Police officials said that the victim was shot once in his head and later culprits threw his body in Lyari River.

SHO Abdul Moid said that the body was at least one or two day old while the motive behind the incident has yet to be ascertained. The body was shifted to Edhi morgue for identification after medico-legal formalities completed at the CHK.

Meanwhile, a man, Aslam Bhatti, was shot and injured in a firing incident in Baldia Town within the limits of Saeedabad police station. Police officials said that the incident took place over ongoing wave of target killings. He was taken to the CHK with critical injuries. In other incident, Salman, 25, son of Musharraf, was shot and injured near Drigh Road within the limits of Shah Faisal Colony police station. Police officials said that the armed men shot and injured the victim when he offered resistance to a robbery bid.

In yet another incident, 26-year-old Waseem, son of Raees and Shahid, 32, son of Ameen, were injured in firing of unidentified persons within the limits of Kharadar police station.

Another young man, Tayyab, 24, son of Mushtaq, was injured in a firing incident in Gulberg area. He was taken to ASH.

Separately, police found a shot dead man from Mufeed e Aam Ground Malir within the limits of Saudabad police station. The identity of victim was yet to be ascertained. SHO Hassan Haider said the victim received a bullet in his head and police not found any thing from his possession, which could provide help for his identity. The body was shifted to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre for medico-legal formalities and later moved to Edhi Morgue for identification.

A police officer said the victim wore sky blue Shalwar Kameez and appeared to be 32-year-old. Police have registered a case against unidentified men on the complaint of state and initiated a probe into it.
