Five more fall prey to violence in Karachi

KARACHI: Five people were killed in separate acts of violence here on Thursday.

A man was killed in Sikandar Goth within the limits of Sachal police station. According to police, 27-year-old Arshad Hussain, son of Iqbal Hussain, was sitting at a tea shop when unidentified gunned men after a quarrel shot him multiple bullets and escaped. As a result, he received fatal bullet wounds and died on the spot.

The body was shifted to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital (ASH) for medico-legal formalities. The official said that Arshad was resident of Sikandar Goth and unmarried.

Police have registered an FIR No 30/2013 under Section 302 against unidentified culprits on the complain of deceased's brother. Further investigation was underway.

In another incident, a man was killed and another injured in an armed attack near Brooks Chowrangi in Korangi within the jurisdiction of Korangi Industrial Area police station.

According to police, Muhammad Hussain, 24, son of Pervaiz and Noor, 27, son of Chaman, were going somewhere when armed pillion riders targeted them and escaped. The body and injured were shifted to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre (JPMC) for an autopsy and treatment respectively. Further investigation was underway.

Separately, a man was killed near Rehmania Masjid located in sector 3, Korangi within the jurisdiction of Zaman Town police station.

An official said that 37-year-old Akbar Ali, son of Rahmat Ali, was sitting near his house when armed riders shot him dead.

The body was brought to JPMC for medico-legal formalities. Police said the motive behind the killing was yet to be ascertained.

Moreover, unidentified culprits shot dead a man in Bhattai Colony within the jurisdiction of Ibrahim Hyderi police station. According to police, Hafiz Talha, 21, son of Qari Hafiz, was sitting outside his house when unidentified armed men opened fire on him; resultantly, he sustained multiple bullets and died on the spot.

The body was shifted to JPMC. The police said motive behind the killing was uncertain as the deceased had no affiliation with any political or religious party.

A seven-day-old body of a man packed in a gunny bag was found from Rexer Line drain in Old Golimar area within the precinct of Pak Colony police station.

SHO Rao Shabbir said that on getting the information about the body lying in the drain, police rushed to the spot and took it to ASH for an autopsy. He said that the identity of the deceased could not be ascertained yet. The man appeared to be 26-year-old, and Urdu speaking.

Bandit killed: A bandit was killed and his other accomplices fled during a snatching bid in Block 2, Tariq Road within the limits of Ferozabad police station.

SHO Jahanzeb Khan said two armed pillion riders were busy looting passers and bystanders near Tayyiba Mosque in Block 2, Tariq Road when a policeman, who was deployed for the security of Narcotics Judge Syed Zakir Hussian, confronted with them and opened fire. As a result, one of the bandits, identified as Muneeb, son of Sohail, sustained critical bullet wounds and succumbed to his injuries on the way to JPMC.

However, his other accomplices managed to flee. Police recovered one pistol and a 125 motorcycle from the scene. Sources said that police cordoned off area to arrest the fleeing culprits.
