Five members of family killed by landmine

KANDAHAR/ASADABAD: Five members of a family including women and children were killed in a landmine explosion today in Dehrawad district of Uruzgan province today, an official said Thursday. A civilian vehicle struck a landmine in Nazir Karez area of Dehrawad district today's noon, killing five occupants including Muhammad Qadar Khan and his four family members. He said two women and two minor girls were also among the dead, adding Muhammad Qadar was a civilian and did not occupy any government position. There was no immediate claim of responsibility. Meanwhile, at least four persons including women and children were killed as many wounded in separate rocket attacks in Narai and Marawara districts of eastern Kunar province throughout the past 24 hours, an official said Thursday. Anti-government gunmen fired four mortar shells on the headquarters of Narai district last night, killing a women and a child and wounding two adult males, Wasifullah Wasifi, spokesman for Kunar governor, told AIP. Similarly, he said 56 rockets were fired on Dangam and Marawara districts which left two people dead and as many wounded in Marawara district. End.
