Fire engulfs chemicals, wood godowns

KARACHI: Fires that broke out in two different godowns for chemicals and wood on Sunday were tamed effectively by the fire brigade. The godown for chemicals situated in New Karachi Industrial area, Sector 6-B was engulfed in flames in the wee hours. According to fire brigade officials, initially two fire tenders rushed to the site and later six more besides a snorkel and a water bowser were called to extinguish the fire. The flames also engulfed the building's storehouse, spreading in its other parts. Meanwhile, the electricity supply was disconnected by the Karachi Electric Supply Company with the nearby buildings evacuated. Nobody was reported hurt and the fire fighters controlled the blaze after five hours of efforts. Another fire incident was reported from a wood godown situated in the same area. Large quantity of wood and a truck were affected in the incident. Two fire extinguishers dowsed the flames whereas the incurred loss is yet to be ascertained. End.
