Festering hate... By Ghayyur

11 January, 2013

Hate speech is still a menace that runs rampant in this society and no one has really bothered to do anything about it. Just recently a 1,000 strong crowd gathered for a rally in Karachi organised by none other than members of the banned Sipah-e-Sahaba. Among other things, the rally called for Shias to be killed as these people believe that Shias are infidels and deserve no mercy. My goodness! In this day and age of heightened exposure, awareness and diversified culture, we still have renegade forces looking to slaughter fellow human beings through the pulpit. When will this madness end in this country and when will someone step in to fix it?

There is extreme potential in Pakistan for more Mumtaz Qadris and his kind who are influenced by such nonsense and act out calls for ruthlessness. The government must intervene before we have more liberal martyrs on our hands.
