FIA acquires Fauzia Wahab's treatment history

The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) has acquired record of the treatment of Fauzia Wahab, the central leader of Pakistan People's Party (PPP) who passed away on Sunday after fighting complications arising out of successive surgeries, officials said.

A senior official said an FIA team visited the Orthopaedic and Medical Institute (OMI) Hospital on Monday and acquired photocopies of her treatment history.

"We have only acquired the documents for government assistance in case a medical board or inquiry committee is formed to probe into the death of Fauzia Wahab," said Additional Director FIA Abbas Baloch.

Senior government officials and PPP leaders blamed doctors' negligence for Fauzia Wahab's death and demanded thorough investigation into the matter.

Committee to ascertain reasons behind Fauzia Wahab's death

The government has constituted a committee to ascertain the reasons behind the demise of former Pakistan People's Party (PPP) MNA Fauzia Wahab.

Adviser to the Prime Minister on Interior Affairs Rehman Malik on Monday announced the constitution of a committee, which will probe the alleged negligence of doctors at the Orthopedic Medical Institute (OMI) in Karachi, where she passed away on Sunday following complications after a surgery.

The committee will investigate whether there was any negligence on the part of doctors during her treatment, said an official statement. The committee will be headed by director general health, Islamabad, with other senior doctors.

The joint investigation team will suggest and recommend the age of retirement of surgeons when they should be stopped from operating patients in a professional way. The inquiry committee will submit its report within two weeks of this notification.

Meanwhile, the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) raided OMI and seized records of the hospital.

End.
