Fake degree case: MPA membership restored

28 January, 2014

ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court (SC) on Monday restored the membership of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) Member Provincial Assembly (MPA) Mian Ziaur Rehman in the Khyber-Pakhunkhwa Assembly.

A three-member bench of the SC, headed by Chief Justice Tassaduq Hussain Jillani, admitted all petitions filed by Ziaur Rahman in which he had challenged the Election Tribunal's decision to suspend his membership in a fake degree case.

The decision by the Election Tribunal to disqualify Ziaur Rahman on the basis of a fake degree was declared null and void. Ziaur Rahman was elected MPA from PK-54, Mansehra, but his membership was suspended by Election Tribunal after his degree was challenged by the opponent candidate.
