Facilitating the people... By Zeeshan

There is no doubt that the project of the Rapid Bus transit system has been going on very fast. The Traffic Engineering and Transport Planning Agency (TEPA) in Lahore has been allocated a budget of Rs 22.95 billion ($ 240.46 million) for this citywide project for the fiscal year 2012-13. However, this project has huge problems attached to it. One of the major problems is that there are no U-turns after an interval of a few kilometers due to which people tend to violate the traffic rules and create problems by obstructing the regular traffic. The people of Lahore somehow find new ways to bypass such issues no matter what the consequences are. Ambulances especially suffer because of bad traffic due to their urgent need to get to hospitals located on Ferozepur Road, which is the hub and approach to all areas of Lahore. This is the same problem for other public hospitals. So how does this transport project facilitate people when such a high risk is attached? The question that needs to be asked is: how can such a facility prove to be useful to the public? ZEESHAN SARDAR
