KARACHI: The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) on Wednesday filed an interim challan in an anti-terrorism court in the murder case of Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) leader Dr Imran Farooq. Death certificate of Farooq and other relevant documents have been attached with the challan.
Mohsin Ali has been directly declared murderer and Moazzam Ali and Khalid Shamim as facilitators in the challan. Moazzam Ali has been charged with financing the killers. Investigation officer Shahzad Zafar said that Mohsin Ali and Kashif Kamran stabbed Farooq to death.
Next hearing of the case will take place in Adiala Jail on May 12. ATC judge Kausar Abbasi Zaidi heard the case on Wednesday.
Earlier on December 31, Shamim and Mohsin had confessed to the crime before a judicial magistrate.
Shamim had admitted that a key MQM figure wanted to get Farooq out of his way. He said that the directives to assassinate Farooq came from London. Farooq, a founding member of the MQM, was killed in a knife attack in Edgware, northwest London, in September 2010.
He sought asylum in Britain in 1999 because he was wanted in Pakistan in several cases of torture and murder. He however denied the accusations and said the cases were politically motivated. He had twice been elected a member of the parliament in Pakistan, but went into hiding in 1992 when the government ordered a crackdown on MQM activists in Karachi.
