27 February, 2013
ISLAMABAD: The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) on Tuesday informed the Supreme Court that former chairman of the Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA) Tauqir Sadiq will be deported to Pakistan by the end of this month. A three-member bench of the court headed by Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry and comprising Justice Ejaz Afzal and Justice Azmat Saeed was hearing the contempt of court case against the former OGRA chief. NAB Additional Prosecutor General Rana Zahid told the bench that NAB is making all possible efforts to apprehend the accused, and added that the documentation relating to his extradition and deportation has also been finalised. In the last hearing the court had directed the authorities concerned to make tangible efforts to bring Tauqir Sadiq from the United Arab Emirates to Pakistan. On November 25 last year the court had struck down the appointment of Tauqir Sadiq as OGRA chairman, declaring it illegal and void ab initio, and ordered him to return all the salary and privileges drawn from the public exchequer in the course of his service as the OGRA chairman. The case was adjourned till March 4. End.
