Ephedrine scandal: SC grants pre-arrest bail to Shahab
13 September, 2012
ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court (SC) on Wednesday granted pre-arrest bail to Textile Minister Makhdoom Shahabuddin in ephedrine quota case until September 25. Accepting the pre-arrest bail application, a three-member bench directed the minister to submit two surety bonds worth Rs 500,000 each. Sardar Ishaq, the applicant's counsel, argued that his client had not allowed the ephedrine quota, but former Health director general Rashid Juma was responsible in this regard. He said further the Anti-Narcotics Force (ANF) registered the case on October 10, but, after nine months, the proceedings were initiated against Shahabuddin a day before his nomination as the premier. Talking to reporters, Shahabuddin denied any charges against him. End.
