English news channels... By Nasiruddin

23 December, 2013

It is quite sad that two of the most watched private English news channels were shut down mainly due to lack of advertisement support and dismal economic environment. However, the Urdu and local languages channels are making money because of the flood of advertisements. It is a huge negligence on the part of our government, which does not support English channels, even though most good schools use English as the medium of instruction.

Being a student of the history of civilisations, I understand that languages play a pivotal role in the development of any society. Our textbooks and learning are both in English but the channels have been doomed. We need to promote English to keep pace with the developed world. I request the authorities to look into this matter to resolve this language issue and launch English channels once again with adequate funding and support. For this, a good idea would be to review and do surveys of how English channels are surviving in India.
