Energy crisis: Zardari orders special control room

ISLAMABAD: President Asif Zardari on Tuesday ordered officials concerned to set up a special control room at the Presidency with updated information about power generation by various power plants, and power distribution to various companies and areas subjected to load shedding.

The president presided over a meeting in this regard. Finance Minister Dr Abdul Hafeez Sheikh, Water and Power Minister Naveed Qamar, Petroleum and Natural Resources Minister Dr Asim Hussain, President's spokesman Senator Farhatullah Khan Babar and federal secretaries concerned and other officials attended the meeting.

Senator Babar said that the meeting reviewed current energy situation in the country. The water and power minister briefed the meeting about the power generation. He also told the meeting that there was no unscheduled load shedding in the country.

The spokesman said that the president ordered officials concerned to set up a special control room in the Water and Power Ministry with updated information about the power generation from different power plants, distribution to various distribution companies and areas subjected to load shedding. He also directed that the same system be replicated at the Presidency so that a special unit in his office could also monitor the situation regarding energy generation, supply and distribution and load shedding.
