Electricity shortfall reaches 8200 MGW

LAHORE: Electricity shortfall has reached the highest level of 8,200 Mega Watts, due to decrease in electricity generation and increase in demand. PEPCO sources said production of electricity during daytime is 8,200 Mega Watts while the demand is 16,400 Mega Watts. According to the sources, provision of fuel and gas to powerhouses does not meet the demand while water-shortage was also making the situation more critical. If powerhouses are not supplied funds and the required amount of fuel, the crisis will become more serious, sources added. To add to the problem, more than 300 grids are dysfunctional. Even if supply of electricity continues, it trips after 15 minutes. Power-crisis in the country is worsening due to which it has become almost impossible to control the menace of load shedding. Power outages in cities have duration of 10 to 15 hours. Common people have fallen victim to power shortfall and are facing acute problems as a result. On the other hand, the supply of electricity is not discontinued in feeders of VVIPs. End.
