ISLAMABAD: The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) is likely to announce a decision today (Thursday) on references sent by National Assembly (NA) Speaker Ayaz Sadiq against PTI Chairman Imran Khan and General Secretary Jehangir Tareen.

Following the completion of arguments from both sides, the chief election commissioner had fixed March 16 for announcing the decision.

It was binding on the ECP to give a decision on these references within 90 days, but references could not be decided within that time.

The PTI moved the Islamabad High Court (IHC) against it, taking the plea that the ECP had not decided the matter within 90 days; therefore, it was not entitled to hear this case further. But this petition was dismissed by the IHC, and the ECP resumed the hearing of the references.
