ECP seeks declarations of eligibility from MPs
03 October, 2012
ISLAMABAD: The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) on Tuesday once again asked members of Parliament and provincial assemblies to submit declarations to the election commission regarding their eligibility to remain in office. The commission has reminded the parliamentarians to fulfil this obligation in pursuance of the Supreme Court order of September 20 in a case (Syed Mehmood Akhtar Naqvi vs Federation of Pakistan through law secretary and others) and to submit fresh declaration on oath that they are not disqualified under Article 63(1)(c) of the constitution. In this regard, the ECP has already asked and sent the prescribed declaration forms to the secretaries of National Assembly, Senate, and provincial assemblies of Punjab, Sindh, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan. The commission has asked all parliamentarians to obtain the prescribed declaration form from secretaries concerned, sign it in their presence and send it to the ECP on or before October 9. End.
