ECP invites applications for allotment of symbols

ISLAMABAD: The Election Commission of Pakistan on Tuesday sought applications from all qualified political parties for allotment of election symbols and directed them that the applications must reach the commission by March 15. At present, out of a total 227 registered political parties some 125 have qualified for applying for election symbols and ECP has prepared a list of 193 election symbols for the allotment.

Political parties that have complied with the provisions of the Political Parties Order, 2002 are invited to apply for allocation of one of the symbols, a statement by the ECP said. The applications should be duly signed by the respective party leader and reach the commission secretariat in Islamabad on or before 15th March, it added.

The applications should contain the following information: The list of symbols applied for in order of preference; symbol or symbols if any allocated to the political party during the previous general election; address of the head office of the political party; names of its president, secretary general and other office-bearers of the central executive committee; numerical strength of its members; copy of election manifesto; copy of the constitution of the political party; whether the party was represented by a member or members in the National Assembly or a provincial assembly in the past and name and other particulars of such member if so; whether the political party has conducted the intra-party elections as required under Article 12 of the Political Parties Order, 2002; whether the political party has submitted its due consolidated statements of accounts audited by chartered account.
