ISLAMABAD: The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has granted postal voting facility to handicapped voters for the upcoming general elections. Upon submission of their CNIC stating the disability, handicapped voters can proceed with the applications requesting the ballot facility from the concerned returning officers by July 5.
Once the applications are collected, the ROs will deliver a package to the applicants which will contain two envelopes, postal ballots and an instructions page along with a declaration form, revealed Shakeel Ahmed, Deputy Election Commissioner of Multan.
Government employees who are away from their polling stations can also avail the facility of casting their votes through the postal service.
For government employees, the declaration form must be signed by their respective head of departments verifying they are government employees and have positions for active election duty.
In order to get votes counted, the ballots needs to be kept in one envelope with the signed declaration form in a separate envelope, all of which must be sent to the RO.
As far as prisoners are concerned, they would need to obtain a signature from the jail superintendent, while handicapped voters require any gazette officer to state that they are handicapped and have mobility issues.
