ECP announces schedule for voter lists verification

ISLAMABAD: The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has announced the schedule of door-to-door campaign for verification of voter lists in Karachi on Tuesday.
According to ECP, the total process of verification of the lists, which would commence from January 5, will be completed in 69 days. The verification teams would work under the supervision of Pakistan Army and Frontier Constabulary (FC).
The commission said further that almost 18 days would be spent in checking voter lists by the ECP teams. The National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) will announce the new voter lists on February 24.
The verifying officials (VO) will visit the allocated census block [electoral area] and mark the number on the door of each household in order to know the exact number of households the voters' whereof are required to be verified by him. The VO will also prepare a list of households along with name of head of household from December 31 to January 4, 2013.
The registration officer/DEC will prepare a consolidated list of households of the district received from the VO of each census block and send the same to PEC and the ECP for information and record.
The verification process will start from January 5 when the VO will visit each household and verify the names of the voters on the electoral roll in accordance with the procedure that will be provided to him by the ECP.
On close of each day of verification exercise, each incharge/army officer of a group of verifying officials, will get a summary-sheet prepared from each VO containing information as to how many houses were visited; number of persons verified and the number of forms of each category filled-in, and will prepare a consolidated summary after completion of the exercise and hand over the same to his next immediate senior officer for onward transmission to the ECP. This exercise would be done between 5th and January 22.
On completion of the exercise, each VO will handover the verified copy of electoral rolls; and filled-in forms to his Supervisor, who after necessary checking, will hand over the same to the ARO for further checking and onward transmission to the RO concerned. This handing over exercise will also take place under proper security to be provided by Army/FC.
The RO, on receipt of verified copy of electoral rolls; and filled-in forms, will retain a photostat copy of the same in his office and forward the original copy thereof to NADRA for scanning, digitization and printing of updated draft electoral rolls.
The copying of verified electoral rolls and the filled-in forms, received by the RO, shall be done at one place, which will be secured with the assistance of army/FC, who will provide the requisite security for this purpose.
Before starting the copying exercise, RO will prepare census block-wise statistics of total forms received category-wise and number of persons verified and not-verified and send a copy thereof to the ECP for information and record. It will be a five-day exercise from 23 to January 27.
On receipt of a copy of verified electoral rolls, filled in forms, NADRA will scan and digitize the changes in electoral rolls received on prescribed forms (form alif, form-II, form B and register-jeem) and entries of verified voter records which were received during door-to-door verification pertaining to Karachi Division, and print the updated draft electoral rolls and send the same to Registration Officers by February 10.
Between February 11 and February 20, the RO will undertake an exercise of matching/tallying the same with the retained photo copy of verified electoral rolls; and filled-in forms with the help of concerned verifying officials and supervisors under direct supervision of the ARO concerned, and overall supervision of RO to ensure that each entry has been made in accordance therewith and make necessary corrections, if any.
