ECP and NAB chairs empty... By Farooq

Right now two important state organs, the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) and National Accountability Bureau (NAB) are non-functional because they don't have any heads. According to the constitution, a consensus is required between the government and the opposition to finalize the names. It is a dilemma since previous practices show that both parties failed to reach a unanimous decision. It is important that constitutional heads must be appointed without delays as such delays affect the smooth functioning of the government.
In the current power set up, Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif along with opposition leader Syed Khursheed Shah and Imran Khan must hold a series of meetings to finalize the names of the heads of all constitutional bodies. Political interests should not be above national interests. The political leadership is expected to show a practical approach to address the issues of corruption and mismanagement. The nation has done its duty by voting in a new leadership and now parliament must get active by pressurizing its leadership to show practical zeal as both ECP and NAB should be functional to reform society.
