02 November, 2012
ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz Senator Zafar Ali Shah has filed a petition in the Supreme Court seeking disqualification of Sindh Governor Ishratul Ebad Khan for holding dual nationality. The petition was filed on Thursday under Article 184(3) of the constitution, making respondents the federal government, Cabinet Division, Election Commission of Pakistan, Interior Ministry, Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (PEMRA), the Sindh governor, Muttahida Qaumi Movement, its chief Altaf Hussain, MQM Deputy Convenor Dr Farooq Sattar and all MQM provincial and National Assembly members. The PML-N senator also said it is a fact that Altaf was declared a citizen of the UK, therefore he should be disqualified from his membership of parliament. Zafar Ali Shah requested the SC that Altaf be directed to make a declaration according to the laws of the United Kingdom to renounce his British citizenship or he should seize his Pakistani citizenship. He also prayed that all 89 respondents, including MQM members belonging to the national and provincial assemblies, should be asked whether they wanted to remain under Altaf's command and control. The PML-N leader further requested the court to direct PEMRA not to allow or facilitate through broadcasting and televising the speeches of Altaf Hussain. End.
