Douglas calls on President Musharraf

ISLAMABAD, February 05 (Online): A US Defence delegation currently in Pakistan for Pakistan-US Defence Consultative Group meeting, called on President General Pervez Musharraf on Friday.
During the course of the call they reviewed defence relations between the Pakistan and the US, including progress on US dollars three billion economic and military assistance package commencing this year.
Welcoming the American delegation, President General Pervez Musharraf expressed the hope that their visit would serve to further enhance defence cooperation between Pakistan and the United States. He appreciated assistance by the US to the Pakistan Armed Force and said that it would help maintain military balance in the region.
Douglas, US Under Secretary of Defence for Policy who is hading the US defence delegation, thanked the President for the opportunity to call on him. He termed his interaction with the senior defence official and military leadership in Pakistan as fruitful. Douglas stated that the US was willing to provide more assistance to Pakistan in the socio economic field as well.
Secretary Defence Lt Gen (Retd) Hamid Nawaz and other senior government functionaries were also present during the call.
US Secretary of Defence calls on Gen Ehsan
US Under Secretary of Defence Douglas J Feith met Chairman Joint Chief of Staff Committee, General Ehsan Ul Haq at Joint Staff Headquarters here on Friday and discussed matters of mutual interest and defence cooperation between Pakistan and United States.
US Under Secretary of Defence is currently in Pakistan and heading US defence delegation for 16th meeting of Pakistan-US Defence Consultative Group- a forum setup to promote military cooperation between the two countries.
Douglas made special mention and appreciated the role played by Armed Force of Pakistan in war against terrorism and said that strategic understanding will pave the way for enhancement of bilateral relation between both countries.
