Doctors demand promotion in next grade

30 September, 2012

LAHORE: General Cadre Doctors(GCD) demand that all doctors serving in grade 17 and 18 should be promoted in grade 18 and 19 respectively while the considerable number of APMO (BS 19) might be promoted to grade 20.

Dr Masood Sheikh, leader of general cadre doctors association said during a meeting, which headed by senator Ishaq Dar.

Dr Masood said that the doctors would accept the conditions laid by the Punjab government if all the doctors as mentioned above are promoted to new grade. He pointed out that current seniority list is only showing around 800 doctors, while hundreds of doctors have been prompted to grade 18 in 2011 and there names have not been included in the seniority list as yet, these doctors have already served Punjab government for a minimum length of 16 to 20 years, and as per formula decided by committee based on the length of service they are eligible for grade 20 even.

He said that the doctors are not pressing to give Grade 20 but there promotion in grade 19 should be ensured so that there will be no resentment at the level of grade 18 senior general cadre doctors.

He said that the general cadre doctors have been the back bone of health delivery system, with out which no system, can work and they are 1400 in number which is more than twice the number of all the cadre present in health department of Punjab.
