Death of a female activist... By Sheerin

It is very sad and shocking to hear the news that a female social worker, namely Sahib Khatoon Mirani, was murdered in Ghotki district. Late Sahib Khatoon, who was working for women's rights and empowerment, became the target of a mindset that does not allow women to become empowered and make their own identities. According to media reports, she received five bullets and could not survive. Media reports also added that she was allegedly killed by her husband due to her decision to live separately from him. One month after her marriage, Sahib Khatoon decided to live with her mother after separating from her husband. As a result of this decision, she was reportedly receiving threats.
The murder of Sahib Khatoon, who was a hope for change in society, leaves a big question mark over the government authorities. It is also a big concern for those civil society activists who are working for women's rights and empowerment as well as for the welfare of our society. Despite the fact that her husband — the alleged murderer — was arrested, the question arises whether he will be taken to task or not. As it is said, justice delayed is justice denied. There is a need for all civil society organisations and people from all walks of life to make an effort and not let the blood of this late female activist be shed in vain.
