DSP beaten up at Supreme Court registry

KARACHI: DSP Maqsood Ahmed, petitioner of a case registered in the Supreme Court of Pakistan, against out-of-turn promotions, was beaten by unidentified plainclothes police personnel here at the Supreme Court Registry on Monday. The DSP came under attack as he made his way to the court for witnessing proceedings of the out-of-turn promotions case. Following the incident, he approached the Aram Bagh police station to have a case registered against SSP Special Investigation Unit (SIU) Farooq Awan, former SSP SIU Raja Omar Khattab, SSP SIU Khurram Waris and SP CID Mazhar Mashwani, as well as their security guards for beating him up. DSP Ahmed also submitted an application at the Aram Bagh police station after which police officers intervened, convening an inquiry team to probe into the case. According to DSP Ahmed, accused police officials and their security guards beat him up as he approached the court to appear in out-of-turn promotions case. Following the incident, inquiry team led by Aram Bagh ASP, Ali Asif was reported to have been collecting footages recorded through CCTV cameras installed at Supreme Court's registry. End.
