Imagine how much fun it is in having your own pool. You and your kids could really use it in these hot days of summer. However, you don’t need to buy one that’s going to leave you penniless, you also don’t have to buy the cheapest one on the market. If you want to make things work, with the help of a Custom Pool Construction, you might just do yourself a favor. It can look whatever you want and it can have all the features you need for you and your family. The best part of all is that we know you have been dreaming about a pool like those from luxurious houses – and you can have it now – without going into bankruptcy.

Of course, ideally, you can do a little research before you start working at your own pool. We’ve written this article to help you get all the information you need to have the pool you always wanted.

Make sure you know what you want - a DIY natural pool or a swimming pond
You might be thinking about a swimming pond if there are lots of plants, or if you’re thinking about doing a wild swimming. However, they can be hard to build, as they need a specific plan and specific characteristics. You also need to think about regenerating zones.

But, if you want clean, clear water with no chemicals and you want to swim freely, then you’re looking for a natural swimming pool.

Get a look book
There are so many options from which you can choose when it comes to creating your custom pool. The thing is that, even if you have an idea in your head, bigger ones come as soon as you see some other options. So it might not be a bad idea to spend some time exploring some ideas for your pool design and features.

If you can, you can create a look book – a book with all the ideas that you like. Pinterest boards are a good way to do this. Or there are many other programs much easier to manage. Get hold of any designs that you like, perhaps some specific pool features, the design of the mosaic, and types of tile and even more. It’s a good idea to save some pictures of architecture or landscape that inspires you. The more pictures you have, the best your pool will be.

Make sure you know the types of the pool
It’s a well-known thing that pools are made of different materials, such as fiberglass and vinyl. There are many that have different filtration and cleaning systems and many other features. It’s crucial to make sure you know everything that there is about these aspects of the pool – this way, you’ll also get the idea of how this will impact the investment that you make. Some pools don’t give you any headaches when it comes to cleaning them, some do, some ‘live’ longer, some don’t.

Don’t get us wrong now, you don’t need to dig up until you know every little detail about this before you go for your consultation. But this also doesn’t mean that you can go there without actually knowing a thing. Things will go smoother if you do your homework on time. And, of course, your pool builder is there to answer all of your questions about the pool.

A box shape is what you need
We all know that most pools have a form of box and they’re the cheapest one to build. The liner manufacturer should be able to do a liner for you. However, you need to be cautious in these cases, as the tanking product doesn’t really include those phosphates that help you avoid the algae which you can encounter in the future.

The bottom should be flat
If you choose to go for a flat bottom, this means that you can do a simple dig and just one level of foundation for your walls  - and this is so easy to do. We may also add that it’s way too easier to clean it.

Too deep is not good
Swimming ponds have to have depth in order to get stability, but natural pools can get as deep as you want. However, our advice is to keep it to 1.8m (or even less) and 2m of walls.

If you’re not sure that the 1.8m are safe for you, then you should keep in mind that the level or reinforcement can still be rational. All you have to do is to talk to a structural engineer to check the retaining wall if you have second thoughts. Also, remember that the weakest point of your pool is the place where the wall joins the floor and where the straight wall runs – so you need to make them stronger with some extra concrete – that, if you’re trying to minimize the steel use.

Why are you getting the pool in the first place?
The most common answer is that you want to swim in it. But that cannot really be all. Perhaps you also want to throw parties with your friends and neighbors. Probably there are going to be lots of kids in your swimming pool. Or maybe there are going to be adults that are going to use it for exercise and relaxation. Perhaps, you want to tan while sitting at the pool. Maybe there’s going to be food and drinks, too. And, after all, a swim in the pool at night is always a good idea.

These are the most common things that you need to keep in mind when you’re to see what kind of features you want for your pool. Go through some ideas with your contractor and make a wish list. Then, it’s best to divide that into two lists: must have and like to have.

Make sure you know all the maintenance costs

As a rule, your pool needs to be cleaned regularly. Which means that you need to know what kind of chemicals you should put in it, what kind of filter you have to use and also consider the idea of manually cleaning it. At some point, you might also need to either cool or hear the pool, do the maintenance thing on the deck and patio area and even more than that.

You need to keep in mind that this is an important thing and you need to understand what kind of maintenance you need to do and all the time that it will take you and all the costs.

The environmental impact is important
Some choices can make your pool eco-friendly. An eco-friendly pool also means a safer pool for you and your family and this also means that you won’t pay that much to maintain it. Let’s take a clear example – some pools are designed to use some plants to help the filtration process, these, instead of chemicals. There are also other energy-efficient designs and some new technology to decrease the electricity that’s necessary for maintaining that pool.

You need to dig up a bit and also talk to your pool builder to find the best equilibrium between the money you’re willing to spend and the environment.

Safety should be a priority
This should not leave your eye at all. It doesn’t matter if you have children or not – safety should be a priority. Some people may roam your garden, and you don’t really know what could happen, because accidents happen all the time. It’s a good idea to gate your pool. If you choose not to do this, then more accidents can happen, and they can involve pets, children and even adults. Just because it doesn’t happen to you, doesn’t mean it cannot happen to others. And sincerely, it’s better safe than sorry. It might be a good idea to use fences, covers or alarms to make sure you know when someone enters the pool.
There are many other safety measures, such as life rafts, which need to always be available for you, having the proper signs and making sure you reduce the slippery surfaces.

Think about the area that’s around the pool
When it comes to your plan of the design, the pool itself should not be your only concern. You should also think about the area that’s around the pool – the deck and the patio. There are some features that you can include, such as a bar or a pool-side water fountain or tanning ledges. (if you want your pool to be fancy).
Keep in mind that the area around the pool has to be designed to make the most out of its functionality and to form a bridge between your garden and your house.

Plants are important
If you have a good landscape, then the profile of your pool can make your garden look amazing. So when it comes to designing your pool, make sure you also include landscape. Your pool builder should be the one to do the plan, because there’s a possibility that he has some connections with a landscaper which they could recommend to you. It’s a good idea to start looking for ideas for landscaping for your pool design.
