According to UN guidelines on consumer protection 1985, a consumer has basic right to consumer education. In Pakistan there is no concept of ‘consumer education’ and as a result every year many people fall prey to various online scams, purchase products without knowing their defects or become a victim of exaggerated advertisement and marketing campaigns and just get on with it without even trying to seek legal help.
The violation of these laws is more visible where the smaller industries or vendors just go to any extent to achieve their goal of selling their goods, no matter how below the standard they are. The government should start educating people about consumer rights on a basic and macro level so that every consumer is aware of his rights while spending his money.
