Constitutional Court... By Javed

It would not be a great idea to create a separate Constitutional Court, as it will not only undermine the powers of the Supreme Court but also render it as a useless vestige of the past. Our system provides for a single apex court, as is the case in most countries. It keeps the feature of a federal system distinctive and ensures the independence of the judiciary. The present scheme of things provides for stability and a checks and balance system. It is actually the rule of law that could cure all the ills of society. It is toward this end that the government should invest its energy and not on devising new courts. JAVED BASHIR
