Complicit in this terror... By Masood

19 February, 2013

Most Pakistanis have been left speechless over the loss of life at the hands of sectarian terrorists in Quetta on Saturday where more than 85 innocent men, women and children lost their lives while countless others were injured. Balochistan's governor, who is now leading the province under Governor's rule, was shocked to see the carnage that took place under his nose. He was only able to utter a partial truth on what is going on in Balochistan. He blamed the intelligence agencies' failure for this mayhem and called them either clueless about the terrorists or too scared to go after them.

I really wish the governor could have spelled out the complete truth: there is a strong possibility that some of the security personnel are complicit and in connivance with the terrorists, taking sides on ideological grounds. This has been proved time and again in other terrorist attacks such as the attack on the naval base in Karachi and air base in Kamra. Pakistan lost specialised airplanes worth hundreds of millions of dollars. Attacks on these bases were supported and guided by insiders. Perhaps it is time for the purging of our security forces of ideological cadres, otherwise we will be pushed into a war where we fight with ourselves, remaining clueless about the real enemy.
