Committee not to confirm 'tax-defaulter' judges
12 February, 2013
ISLAMABAD: The Parliamentary Committee on Appointment of Judges on Monday rejected the nominations of two additional judges of the Sindh High Court for permanent status. The nominations were forwarded by the Judicial Commission of Pakistan to the parliamentary committee, which held its meeting in the Parliament House to consider them. The committee's meeting, chaired by Senator Aitzaz Ahsan, rejected the nominations on the grounds that they are not paying taxes. The two additional judges are Justice Naeem Akhtar and Jusitce Shafi Siddiqui. Speaking on the occasion, Barrister Aitzaz Ahsan said the committee has sent its recommendations to the prime minister, although it knew that these judges would be regularised. End.
