Chairman NADRA Tariq Malik resigns

11 January, 2014

ISLAMABAD: Chairman National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) Tariq Malik has tendered resignation and sent it to Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif.

According to media reports, Tariq Malik after fighting a long battle with the government tended his resignation. In its resignation he has stated that he was resigning in the larger interest of the NADRA.

Malik said that his resignation was in national interest and he was feeling proud to leave the department in profitable position. He said that he always worked with honesty and integrity and all the allegations against him had political motives.

Last week, Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) had hurled allegations at Malik about his Canadian nationality, his passports and official visits to different countries as deputy chairman and chairman of NADRA. The government had on Dec 2 sacked Mr Malik without any notice but he was restored by the Islamabad High Court the next day.

Meanwhile, Imtiaz Tajwar, a BS-21 Additional Secretary in the Ministry of Interior has been given additional charge of Chairman NADRA.

He will hold this responsibility for the next few days till NADRA Board meets to select an interim Chairman.

Appointment of the new regular/ full-time Chairman NADRA will be done on open merit through advertisement as per the NADRA Ordinance. The due process in this regard will be initiated in the next few days.

End.
