LANDIKOTAL: Eight troops, including a captain, were killed and three others injured in a remote-controlled bomb blast near Alhaj Market in Bara on Thursday.

"At least eight troops, including an officer, were killed and three others wounded in a bomb explosion, targeting two vehicles of the paramilitary Frontier Corps (FC)", a spokesman for the force told AFP. The vehicles were on a routine patrol when attack happened, he added.

Earlier, the spokesman had said that four troops were killed and six wounded. Local government official Nasir Khan also confirmed the new toll. Sources said that a convoy of security forces was passing through Akakhel area of Bara Tehsil when it hit a remote-controlled bomb.

The deceased were identified as Captain Manan, Tariq, Yousaf, Bahadur Shah, Ali Bacha, Nawaz Gul, Kamran Ali and Jan Afzal.

Security forces cordoned off the area and started a search operation after the bombing.

Elsewhere in Haripur, three men, allegedly arrested by security forces when they disappeared a year ago, were found dead after authorities ordered that they be produced alive in court.

According to a preliminary autopsy report, the three men aged 30 to 35 were recently killed – first poisoned, then their necks were broken.
