COAS Kayani briefed on action on cross-border raids
07 July, 2012
RAWALPINDI: Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Ashfaq Parvez Kayani visited Panakot, Dir, on Friday. According to a ISPR statement, the COAS was briefed about the latest situation at Dir and the measures being taken against the threat posed by miscreants, operating from safe havens across the border. The cross-border intrusion by militants from the Afghan side into Dir had recently become an issue of grave danger. The last week attacks by the Swat-based militants, now stationed in Kunar, caused a number of casualties in raids against the Pakistani posts along the Afghan border in Dir. The COAS praised the high morale and sense of sacrifice of the officers and civilians and thanked them for their support. He said the Army was committed to bringing peace and development to the area and that its units deployed in the region would not leave until the terrorists had been defeated and smooth transition of responsibility to civil administration had taken place. End.
