RAWALPINDI: Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Ashfaq Pervez Kayani said that free and fair elections are his dream and he is glad that his dream will be realized soon.

According to Media Reports, the COAS expressed his thoughts while talking informally to reporters.

General Kayani said since he obtained the Army chief office in 2007, he has tried his level best to ensure that the election process should not be interfered.

He continued saying that he has always supported the democratic process according to the words and spirit of the Constitution in the past five years.

The COAS said that he advocates free and transparent elections now along with peaceful transition of power.

He said that he knows that doubts and suspicions are being created but his intentions should be gauged not from his statements but from his actions and from the facts on ground.

The Army chief said that it is his desire that elections are held simultaneously in the entire country including Balochistan. He said that in 2008 he stopped interference in the political process and today again we have the same mission.

He said he has assured the Election Commissioner of complete help and cooperation.

The army chief also said that electing either competent or incompetent rulers was the prerogative of the people and not of the army.

He said that we will accept the election results whole heartedly. He said it is our constitutional duty to be with the government, irrespective of who is at the helm of affairs.

The Army chief said that we want democracy to flourish in the country and the army is not supporting anyone behind the scenes.

End.
