CM Shahbaz stresses skilled manpower for development

LAHORE: Punjab Chief Minister (CM) Shahbaz Sharif has said that skilled manpower played a vital role in rapid development, poverty alleviation and stability of the economy.
Addressing a meeting with regard to the promotion of vocational education and skills development in the youth the CM said the youth, by learning various skills, could not only stand on their feet but also earn foreign exchange for the country by going abroad.
He said the Punjab government had adopted a solid strategy for the promotion of vocational education and preparing skilled workforce in accordance with the market needs.
He said the Skills Development Programme which has been launched in five districts of south Punjab, with the collaboration of the Department of International Development (DFID), has yielded positive results and its scope was now being extended to another 18 districts of the province.
The CM said a major portion of the country's population comprised youth and equipping the young generation with modern knowledge could change the destiny of the nation.
He said the goal of national progress and prosperity could be achieved through empowerment of youth and by imparting various skills to them.
He further said the Punjab government has evolved a number of programmes for the welfare and provision of job opportunities to the youth. He said interest-free loans were being given to the youth under the self-employment scheme. He said the provincial government had provided interest-free loans worth billions of rupees to the youth during the last five years so they could achieve self-reliance. The CM said the future of the country was linked with technical education, which was necessary for its economic stability.
He said the Punjab government had introduced the Skills Development Programme for imparting free training to the youth for controlling poverty and unemployment.
He further said that after the success of the programme in five districts of south Punjab, its scope was being extended to all districts of the province for benefiting maximum number of youths. The CM went on to say that provision of relief and welfare of the masses was the agenda of the government and all-out resources were being provided for this purpose.
He said the Punjab government had given priority to speed and transparency in the execution of all development programmes and projects, and had taken unprecedented measures for the betterment and uplift of the common man during the last five years. He further said the government was also trying to resolve the energy crisis and the day is not far when all problems would be overcome.
